September Tutor Meeting

Discussion Items
Group Classes vs. Individual Tutoring
We discussed the different dynamics of a large group class, small group class, and individual tutoring. Different activities are more appropriate based on the size of your group.

Reading
Discussion and examples on how to incorporate reading into your lessons. A few examples are
  • Pick out a word in a paragrah and have the student find it and discuss what it means based on the context
  • Before having the student read the paragraph, tell them about several challenging words they will come across. Discuss them, pronounce them, have them read, then discuss them again
  • Have the student first read silently, then out loud, then discuss the topic

Citizenship Exam
More discussion regarding the type of questions on the exam, different ways to study. Discussion on how to add politics into your discussion if the student is interested, without bringing your own views into the discussion.

  1. Once again the support group was extremely helpful. I went not knowing how I was going to teach my student today and left knowing exactly what I needed to to.

    Thanks,
    Charlene
