Preposition Bag - Attend a Tutor Sharing Meeting to see how to use this with your student!

Purpose:
Physical materials to demonstrate prepositions such as "on top of/underneath", "under/over", "above/below" etc.

Materials:
  • Brown paper bag (lunch bag)
  • Colored popsicle sticks
  • Small colored balls
  • Small rocks
  • Rough stick (nail file for example)

How to use:
Put all the items in the brown paper bag. Pulling them out, demonstrating their different positions, you can teach the following phrases:
"in (the bag), on top of (the bag), next to (the bag)"
OR compare the objects in relation to each other, to their colors, etc

The following prepositions are a sampling of what you could demonstrate with these objects
on top of / under / next to / in / on / above / below / between / far away from / near / over / under
how many... what color ..what's in (the bag) / light / heavy / soft / rough / hard / smooth

Student can also decorate the bag - draw a face on it - turn it into a puppet to be used in the conversation
