Foam Words - Attend a Tutor Sharing Meeting to discuss / see all the ways to use foam with your student!

Foam Words
There are endless ways you could use words written on foam shapes (squares, rectangles, circles).

Oilers
Place foam words upside down on the table. Each person draws words one at a time. The first person to take three words that share one letter wins (in the 8 word version) or four words (in the 16 word version.)

8 word suggestions
fish / soup / swan / girl / horn / army / knit / vote / chat

16 word suggestions
ape / day / can / rat / lip / die / tin / rig
hop / dot / one / row / put / bud / sun / rue

Telephone
Write single sentences on foam that are two parts of a telephone conversation. Create as many '2 part' conversations as possible. Student must match those that go together. For example

Foam 1 could say "Hello could you tell me how to get to your store?"
Foam 2 could say "Sure, go south on I25 to Central, exit and turn right (West) and we are 4 blocks down on the right."

Word Creation
Using 2 colors of foam, write the first half of a word on one color and the second half of that word on the other color. Create as many of these "word halves" as you wish. Have the student draw one of each color to see if they match.

Season's Greetings
Create 4 sets of foam words related to the seasons. For example

Fall: Leaves, Halloween, Pumpkins, Squash, Thanksgiving, etc
Winter: Snow, Christmas, New Years, Snowman, Ice Skating, etc
Spring: Flowers, Insects, Mud, Easter, etc
Summer: Swimming, Baseball, Picnics, 4th of July, etc

Mix up all the words and have your student organize them appropriately. Be prepared with some 'blanks' for them to fill out with their own ideas to add.
