Student Experience Discussions
We discussed some common issues we are having with our students such as dwindling meeting attendance, tardiness, and more. We shared our common meeting experiences.
Pronounciation
Pronounciation techniques are much easier to demonstrate and talk about in person. As a summary, I will list some of the ideas we reviewed and practiced:
1.) Using a rubber band, clapping, feet stomping, and walking (steps) to demonstrate syllables.
2.) Using hand motions and movement to demonstrate emphasis on certain syllables of words.
3.) Different ways to write words on the board to demonstrate splitting syllables.
4.) How to group the letters of the alphabet that have 'sounds' in common.
5.) GREAT REFERENCE BOOKs - we reviewed 3 books by Judy B Gilbert, two were different versions of "Clear Speech". These books come with CD's and have fabulous ideas.
Helpful Hints
1.) We discussed how important it is to get to know our students, and how our ideas and lessons change as we learn more about each other. We shared the methods we have used to get to know our students.
2.) Discussion regarding 'correcting' our students was quite interesting. We understand it does our student a grave disservice if we let them continually make mistakes in their sentences structure or word pronounciation. We shared ways we have incorporated 'corrections' into our conversations and lessons that work well.
